Pickup Truck Sparks A Brush Fire In Phelan

PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A vegetation fire that was sparked by a pickup truck fire in the town of Phelan on Nelson Road between Campanula Rd. and Centola Rd.

The blaze was reported shortly before 3pm. on Nelson Rd after a pickup truck caught fire and spread to the surrounding brush, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. San Bernardino County firefighters with help from CAL FIRE were on the scene of a vegetation fire. Shortly before 4pm., the fire had grown to about 16 acres, with structures being threatened and moderate rate of spread. From reports the fire was moving south towards the mountains and could have hit Highway 138 if it made it over the mountain. 

One ambulance was called to the scene for a burn victim. No structure damage had been reported. Report of some out buildings may have burned. Check back for updates.

Update at 4:30pm the fire had laid down with help of two air tankers and one helicopter. The fire dubbed Johnson Fire.

At 5pm According to CAL FIRE the fire burned about 29 acres and is 35% contained. Crews are expected to work through the night with a day shift tomorrow to bring full containment.
