Brush Fire Burning In The Cajon Pass On This 4th Of July

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A brush fire broke out by the shooting range in the Blue Cut area of the Cajon Pass on July 4th Sunday afternoon.

This fire was reported at 1:53pm Sunday, July 4, 2021. Located between Cajon Blvd. (Route 66) and Interstate 15. The fire is close to the Route 66 Shooting Sports Park off of Cajon Blvd. (Route 66).

San Bernardino County Fire Department, CAL Fire, and US Department of Forestry were getting calls of a small brush fire in the Cajon Pass in the blue Cut area between Cleghorn and Kenwood exits.

US Forest Service firefighters quickly were on scene. They asked California Highway Patrol to close Cajon Blvd. as they work to extinguish the flames.

At 2:30pm the fire is reporting to be about 7 acres with moderate rate of spread in light-medium fuels. It has potential for 50-100 acres with light winds.

Forest Service called for three helicopters and 2 air tankers from San Bernardino Airport to help with the fight.

A more accurate total acreage is coming soon. Fire crews will be staffed overnight. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Update at 3pm the forward rate of spread has been spread at 7 acres. All aircraft has been released. Cause is still under investigation.

Final Update: The fire size has been determined to be smaller than initial air attack estimates with significant smoke covering the area. The fire is dubbed the Lone Fire.
