COLTON, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Two people who were killed in by a suspected DUI driver have been identified from a two vehicle crash on Interstate 10 early Saturday morning.
Jose Carranza, 54, and Milagro Nieto-Campos, 59, both were residents of Pacoima, were pronounced dead at the scene.
California Highway Patrol and Colton Fire Department were called to the scene at about 2am Saturday, February 5, 2022. The crash was located on the westbound side of Interstate 10 just before the Pepper Avenue exit. It was reported to be a two vehicle crash. The two vehicles involved were a black Nissan Sentra with heavy rear-end damage that was upside down in the ditch and a sliver Toyota Camry with heavy front-end damage.
CHP said, the Toyota Camry was traveling west on the freeway when it moved to the right and collided with a Nissan Sentra that was stopped on the shoulder of the freeway. The collision caused the Nissan to overturn and go upside down into the ditch, according to the CHP.
CHP arrived at the scene and was able to pull Jose Carranza the driver out of the Nissan. Also the passenger Milagro Nieto-Campos was also located in the Nissan. They were both pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. The suspect taken to a local hospital with unknown injuries that are not considered to be life-threatening then was arrested.
The incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
