Winchester Man Killed In Rollover Crash, On I-40 In Newberry Springs Has Been ID’d

NEWBERRY SPRING, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A rollover crash along Interstate 40 last Sunday afternoon has killed Ronald Matson, a 60-year-old resident of Winchester and one was airlifted.

The crash happened at about 2:05pm Sunday November 27, 2022. The location was on Westbound Interstate 40 approximately a mile after Desert Oasis Rest Area. California Highway Patrol, and CAL Fire responded to the rollover crash involving a black BMW x series SUV.

According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Log, the BMW was traveling on westbound I-40 when they lost control at an unknown speed. The vehicle veered to the center divider and rolled-over multiple times, then landed on its wheels near the fast lane on the eastbound side.

Rescue crews requested one helicopter to transport one with critical injuries. Firefighters rendered aid to the two people involved in the crash and reported Ronald Matson was deceased at the scene. One person was transported by Mercy Air #66. The helicopter airlifted from the scene to Loma Linda University Medical Center in critical condition.
