BIG PINES, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A 61 year-old Phelan male has died after a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 2 west of Big Pines Highway, said the California Highway Patrol.
CHP and firefighters from Los Angeles County Fire Department and San Bernardino County Fire Department were called to the crash scene on Monday about 1:32pm August 14, 2023. The location of the crash was on Highway 2 near the town of Big Pines.
The preliminary investigations suggests the driver of the blue Ford Explorer a resident of Phelan CA, and a passenger were traveling eastbound on Hwy 2. For reasons still under investigation, the vehicle left the paved roadway and overturned. As a result of the collision, the driver sustained fatal injuries at the scene.
The passenger was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
The driver identity will be withheld pending next of kin notification.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this collision.
