Small Brush Fire along Highway 18 Sparked by Vehicle Fire near Big Bear Friday Afternoon

The fire was first reported at about 2:21pm Friday September 27, 2024, on Hwy 18 near Catus Flats (Lucerne Valley side).

The vehicle was reported to be a gray Dodge Durango SUV that was destroyed and about 2 acres of brush and trees were burned, according to CAL FIRE.

Firefighters from Cal Fire, San Bernardino County Fire, and San Bernardino National Forest crews responded to the scene, and the blaze was knocked down in 40 minutes and cleared the scene by 5:45pm.

Everybody did escape the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the vehicle fire is unknown at this time.
