BAKER, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi-truck that caught fire Sunday afternoon and snarling weekend Holiday traffic for southbound drivers on Interstate 15 in the town of Baker.
California Highway Patrol and firefighters responded to the semi on fire. The semi fire occurred about 2:55pm, destroyed the semi truck and save partial majority of the trailer. According to the California Highway Patrol, the semi fire happened southbound between Baker Boulevard and the Kelbaker Road exits on southbound I-15.
When firefighter arriving at the scene to extinguished the semi, they had to temporary close all southbound lanes. Traffic was diverted onto Baker Blvd and get back on the freeway. At 7:19pm the #1 lane was reopened. CHP have issued a HAZMAT cleanup for the #2 and #3 lanes. At one point traffic was backup for 8 miles.
According to the CHP traffic logs, the fire was coming from under the cab of the truck. Everybody did escape the semi before it became fully engulfed. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
Expect delays and use alternate route to bypass the cleanup.
