PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A vehicle burst into flames after colliding with a semi, it turned out to be a fatal head-on collision on Highway 138 Sunday morning.
California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic accident on Highway 138 close to Rastall Road about two miles from Interstate 15. The crash happened Sunday morning about 4:07am on August 1, 2021.
When CHP officers were on the scene they found a fully engulfed vehicle with major front end damage. It was reported to be an SUV unknown make or model in flames, and the driver trapped. Witnesses said the flames were too intense to rescue the driver. After the flames were extinguish, CHP and firefighter said there has been one confirmed deceased inside the SUV.
The semi driver was able to escape from the crash uninjured. The crash caused the semi and the trailer to jack-knife and block all eastbound lanes and one westbound lane. At 8:18am all lanes were reopened. At this time, it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland San Bernardino Office. CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
