Semi Tractor-Trailer Driver Loses Control After Brakes Fail, Crashes In The Cajon Pass

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A semi tractor-trailer crashed into the guardrail Tuesday morning after the driver lost control due to failed brakes.

California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department were dispatched to the crash. Reported to be a green semi tractor pulling a trailer stopped in the center divider. The crash happened at about 6:27am Tuesday August 3, 2021, Southbound Interstate 15 just after Highway 138 onramp.

The semi driver was driving on southbound Interstate 15 going down the Cajon Pass this morning. It was reported to be a male driver, driving at freeway speeds for semis in the #4 lane. The driver said he tried to slow down, but the brakes failed. This caused him to lose control of the semi and crash into the guardrail on the right side, just after Highway 138 onramp. Then the semi slid across all the lanes into the center divider due to a blown front passenger side tire.

The driver reportedly jumped off the the moving semi before the semi came to a rest in a cloud of dust. The driver had minor injuries. In the CHP traffic log it said no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
