CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A five-vehicle accident on southbound Interstate 15 Saturday in the Cajon Pass blocked two lanes on the freeway for about 30 minutes. Sending a mother and a child to the hospital with unknown injuries.
California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic accident. The accident was reported at about 3:07pm, Saturday October 2, 2021. The crash location was on southbound Interstate 15 just before Highway 138 exit. It was reported to be a four vehicle crash with two blocking the middle lanes with debris all over the traffic lanes.
From reports from the CHP traffic log, a speeding white pickup truck (unknown make and model) rear-ended a white Honda Civic, gray Jeep Cherokee with rear damage, and also hit a black BMW unknown model. The impact caused the white truck to go off the freeway about 50 feet down the embankment on the right shoulder. The fifth vehicle involved was a yellow Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that had no place to go and crashed into the white Honda.
Following the crash, the male inside the white pickup truck fled the scene on foot and have not been located. Witness stated last report he ran to the Shell gas station off the Highway 138. No one is in custody at this time.
Mother and a baby was transported by ground ambulance to a local hospital, with unknown injuries. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol San Bernardino Office. Additional details were limited, but CHP said speed was a factor. It’s unclear if drugs or alcohol also contributed to the crash.
