Lane-Splitting Motorcyclist Killed In The Cajon Pass

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A motorcyclist was fatally injured Saturday when the rider crashed into a slow-moving vehicle while splitting lanes at high speeds on a congested stretch of Interstate 15, due to an earlier crash in the same area.

California Highway Patrol and members of the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the scene about 10pm on January 1, 2022. The traffic collision was on southbound Interstate 15, about 2 miles before the Highway 138 exit. No description of either vehicles involved were released on the CHP Traffic Log.

From reports the rider was traveling at high speeds estimated at about 50 mph. The motorcyclist was going between vehicles in stop-and-go traffic when it hit the car. The rider landed in the fast lane and the #2 lane. Despite life saving measures, the rider was pronounced deceased on scene by emergency personnel. The driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries. CHP temporarily closed all lanes for about an hour for an investigation. CHP reopened the two right lanes just after 11pm.

This incident will be under investigation by the CHP Inland Office. They said additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
