CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Two people were injured after crashing into a parked big rig on the side of the Brake Check Area off ramp Sunday night, according to California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at about 10:10pm Sunday January 9, 2022. The crash location was on southbound Interstate 15 at the brake check area exit. California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash. The two vehicles involved were a black Dodge Challenger and a big rig tractor-trailer.
According to the California Highway Patrol Traffic Log, the Dodge Challenger may have been racing/speeding prior to losing control, spinning off the freeway and crashing into the back of a parked rig rig. The impact caused the Dodge to catch fire. Both people inside the Dodge were able to get out with help of good Samaritans.
Firefighters rendered aid to the two people. Rescue crews requested one helicopter to transport one person with a head injury and a broken leg. The person was transported by Mercy Air #22 helicopter from the crash scene to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. The second person sustained only minor injuries.
The big rig driver was not injured in the collision and was able to detach the trailer before the trailer caught fire. The trailer was reported to be fully loaded with poultry.
Speeding likely played a factor in the crash, which is still be investigated by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office. Additional details were limited at this time.
