CRESTLINE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A small vegetation fire was quickly extinguished on Highway 138. Later in the night a house fire started a small brush fire in the town of Crestline Saturday night.
The first blaze was reported at about 6:08pm on Highway 138 near Burnt Mill Road. The fire dubbed the Worlds Fire was fought with help from US Forest Service, CAL Fire, and San Bernardino County Fire Department firefighters who were quickly on scene. In less than three hours they had the fire fully contained and out. The fire had consumed about one acre.
The second blaze was reported at about 11:11pm on the 23000 block of Short Way near Old Mill Rd. While fire crews were en route, dispatch received multiple calls stating they heard explosions and ammunition was going off at the residence.
Fire crews arrived on-scene to find heavy smoke and fire from a large multi-story home perched on a hillside. The fire also had spread to nearby vegetation, causing tree torching and multiple spot fires in adjacent properties. Due to the spread to the wildland, CALFIRE sent a full response. Arriving firefighters worked to suppress the well involved structure fire, perimeter control of the vegetation fire, also finding downed energized power lines.
Arriving crews also found a burn victim, an ambulance transported the patient to an area burn center with moderate injuries. Despite multiple challenges, hazards and steep terrain, the fire was brought under control in approximately 60 minutes. Fire crews had the house fire and brush fully contained and out in just over three hours.
The home received heavy damage and is uninhabitable. Firefighters were successful in keeping the fire to ¼ acre & out of adjacent homes. Two vehicles were also damaged by the fire.
Both fires remain under investigation by fire investigators.
