PHELAN, CA. (Pain In the Pass) >> A single-vehicle crash on Tuesday afternoon snarled westbound traffic on Highway 138 in the Cajon Junction.
At approximately 12:46pm January 17, 2023, California Highway Patrol and firefighters from San Bernardino County Fire Department personnel were dispatched. The report was of an overturned vehicle that landed on its roof on westbound Highway 138 east of Interstate 15 in Phelan.
Reports from the CHP traffic log, the vehicle involved in the crash was a black Chevrolet Suburban that had major damage with two people inside.
Rescue crews requested two ambulances to the scene with one person trapped inside. One person was transported by ground ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Other person involved had only minor injures.
The overturned vehicle blocked both westbound lanes. Traffic was diverted off the highway for about two hours until the flipped vehicle could be removed. For reasons still under investigation, the Chevy lost control, hit the guardrail and rolled over multiple times landed upside down. The Chevy also knocked down a traffic light/sign pole.
