Santa Ana Man Killed In A Roll-Over Crash On I-15

HARVARD, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A Santa Ana man died in a rollover crash on Interstate 15 near Barstow has been identified.

The crash happened at about 2:47pm Monday January 23, 2023. The location was on southbound Interstate 15 at Harvard Road. California Highway Patrol, and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash.

 The driver has been ID as Jose Chacon, age 78, resident of Santa Ana.

Jose Chacon was driving a 2000 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck with a 73-year-old female passenger. The couple both reside in Santa Ana.
 
The man was heading southbound on the freeway at an unknown rate of speed when he allowed his pickup truck to veer to the right. The vehicle then crossed over the shoulder and traveled into the open desert, where it began rolling over and came to rest.

Firefighters rendered aid to two people and a dog inside the upside down pickup truck. Rescue crews requested one helicopter to transport the passenger with serious injuries. She was transported by Mercy Air #66 to Loma Linda University Medical Center in unknown condition. Jose Chacon succumbed to his injuries sustained in the collision. The dog was check out and is okay.

This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Bartow Office.
