CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >>An investigation into the cause of the fatal accident is ongoing by the California Highway Patrol.
Icy road conditions may have caused an accident that a vehicle flew off Interstate 15 in the Cajon Pass on Saturday night or early Sunday morning. The Cajon Pass had snow/icy covered lanes Saturday night into Sunday morning CHP reported.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino Fire Department received calls at 11:32am Sunday on February 26, 2023. A passersby had seen a white 4 door sedan upside down with snow covering the vehicle off of Interstate 15 about a mile before the Cleghorn Road exit.
When the recuse unit arrived they saw the car had come to a rest in a wash next to the fire road, 2N47 Cleghorn Ridge Rd. about 250 feet below the freeway.
Firefighters rendered aid to the the driver and its was unknown how many people were inside the vehicle. Sadly, it is known that at least one person succumbed to their injuries sustained in the collision.
This is a developing story. This story will be updated when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
