Big Rig Fire Snarls Traffic Going To Stateline Saturday Morning On I-15

NIPTON, CA (Pain In The Pass) >> An big rig on fire created traffic delay for those going to Stateline/Las Vegas area on northbound lanes of Interstate 15 Friday night and Saturday morning.

This incident first was reported about 8:48pm Friday April 7, 2023, on northbound I-15 about a mile after Nipton Road exit. From the CHP traffic log, there were multiple vehicle that reported they hit or ran over a large piece of debris in traffic lanes. Some of the vehicles spun out in results of missing or hitting the debris

A passing semi tractor trailer ran over the debris and fluid sprayed all over the traffic lanes. When the semi stop on the right shoulder, flames were coming from front end of the tractor. Minutes later the flames reach the trailer. The trailer was fully loaded and was not described in the traffic log. Both the semi tractor trailer were fully engulfed and complete burn to the ground.

CHP, Caltrans and the tow company requested to respond for a hard closure of the #2 and #3 lane required in order to allow for the recovery of the trailer. Traffic at one point traffic was approximately 8 miles long at 12pm Saturday afternoon.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Barstow Office.
