Passenger Killed After Pickup Truck Slamming Into Semi-Truck In The Cajon Pass Friday Morning

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A passenger was killed after there pickup truck slamming into a semi tractor trailer. The photo above is courtesy from Bob Anderson.

The crash took place shortly after 4:30am April 21, 2023, just about one mile after the Highway 138 exit on northbound northbound Interstate 15. California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash involving two vehicles, a gray Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck and a semi belly dump tractor-trailer full of sand.

Both vehicles were heading north on Interstate 15 when the driver of the Chevy pickup truck hit the back end of a semi-trailer. The pickup truck caught on fire. The passenger in the pickup truck was found dead after the fire department put out the fire. The driver of the pickup truck wasn’t serious injured. The driver the semi was not injured in the collision.

The female passenger identity has not been released publicly at this time.

Traffic on the freeway was stopped for a while this morning, and two lanes were blocked around the scene. All lanes were reopened by 11am. CHP believe speed was a factor in the crash.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Inland Office.
