Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash On Highway 138 Near Hwy 18 Friday Morning

LLANO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash involving four vehicles that occurred on Highway 138 east of Highway 18 that resulted in the death of a Highland resident Friday morning.

The multiple vehicle crash happened at about 6:55am Friday April 21, 2023. The location of the collision was on Highway 138 near Largo Vista Road. California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the traffic collision.

One of the vehicles involved in the collision was an early 2000’s silver or gray pickup truck, possibly a Ford F-150 or Dodge Ram that fled the scene with front-end damage. The second vehicle was reported to be a Dodge Durango unknown color, a resident of Palmdale. The third vehicle was a sliver Kia Forte, a resident of Highland that was killed.  The fourth vehicle was a black Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, a resident of Pinon Hills.

The hit-and-run driver allowed the truck to travel the wrong way into the eastbound lane of Hwy 138.  The driver of the Dodge Durango took evasive action to avoid the wrong way driver (hit-and-run) and lost control of the vehicle. The Dodge Durango spun out of control and collided with the sliver Kia Forte and the black Toyota Tacoma.  As a result of this collision, the driver of the sliver Kia Forte sustained fatal injuries. The drivers of Dodge Durango and the Toyota Tacoma both sustained minor injuries.

CHP issued a SIG-ALERT for eastbound and westbound Hwy 138 at approximately 7:33am, and was canceled at approximately 9:33am.

Name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
