California Highway Patrol and Victorville Fire Department were on scene of a semi blocking all southbound lanes on fire. The semi crash was located on southbound Interstate 15 near the Stoddard Wells Road/Bell Mountain exit. The semi crash/fire happened on Tuesday about 5:47am August 29, 2023. California Highway Patrol and firefighters were on the scene and had to temporarily shut down the freeway while they worked on getting the semi put out.
It has a look like the semi driver fell asleep at the wheel or had a mechanical malfunction. The semi veered to the right shoulder, hit the guardrail and then hit the wall almost head-on at freeway speeds.
The impact sent the semi across all lanes of traffic before coming to a stop on fire. From reports the cab of the semi came off the chassis. There were also other pieces of debris scattered along the freeway that were on fire and smoking. The trailer was reported to be intact with no major damage.
About at 8:45am CHP reopened the #2 and #3 lanes. Traffic was backed up and was at a complete jammed for miles.
Alcohol and or drugs are not suspected to be a factor and the driver was not hurt in the collision.
Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Victorville Office.
