Numerous Overturned Semis due to Strong Santa Ana Winds Monday Morning

SAN BERNARDINO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Powerful Santa Ana winds have knocked over a hand full big rig semi’s, knocking down trees, and power lines from reports on the CHP traffic log, as of 4pm Monday afternoon. This happened along the 15 Freeway corridor between the Cajon Pass/Devore 15/215 split area and the 60 freeway in Ontario. (Photo above is credit by Philip Esposito)

One of the worst one was on northbound Interstate 215 about 7:42am just before the Devore Road exit of an overturned big rig blocked two traffic lanes for about two hours.

Two semi’s overturned near the I-10/I-15 freeway interchange in Ontario. Then two more semi were knocked over on I-15 near the 60 freeway in Jurupa Valley.

Strong winds are expected to continue blowing through the Inland Empire until 10am Tuesday morning. Winds reaching between 40 to 50 mph with gusts of up to 75 mph.

Experts say big rig semi’s most at risk. Those that are returning empty after making deliveries. The high profile and lighter weight makes them more prone to tipping over in strong gusty winds.
