CORONA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Two people were injured in a fiery, chain-reaction collision during the evening commute on I-15 Friday night.
This fiery collision closed down all lanes of the Interstate 15 Freeway in Corona for more than five hours, officials said. The crash was reported around 6:18pm in the northbound lanes at Magnolia Avenue.
A Mercedes-Benz Sprinter medical van carrying oxygen tanks rear-ended a Subaru sedan that then hit a semi tractor trailer. The canisters exploded, triggering a fire that engulfed the van and Subaru. The flames hit nearby trees and brush.
Two people suffered minor injuries and were hospitalized, said Ryan Rolston, the Corona Fire Department battalion chief who responded to the crash.
Traffic was diverted off at Magnolia and allowed to use the 91 Express/Toll Lanes for free, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.
All lanes were reopened by 11:38pm, the CHP said.
We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Riverside Office.
