25-Year-Old Woman has been ID killed by Rock Thrown at Her Car on Hwy 138

LLANO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A 25-year-old woman died after a rock was thrown through her windshield while she was driving on Highway 138 near Hwy 18 Intersection Tuesday morning. California Highway Patrol said, marking the third separate rock-throwing instance in as many days.

The CHP Antelope Valley division said officers responded to a “tragic traffic incident” on Highway 138 just east of Hwy 18 intersection at around 12:10am on Tuesday October 8, 2024.

Officers arrived to find the driver, 25-year-old Sarina Rodriguez of Lancaster, had sustained fatal injuries when a rock was thrown through her windshield.

Rodriguez’s boyfriend, Franco Martinez, was with her in the car at the time and said, the rock “came out of nowhere.” He described trying to take control of the steering wheel after she was struck, but with “less than a second” to act, the vehicle crashed.

Rescue crew arrived on scene and said the Rodriguez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Martinez wasn’t injured in the collision.

Investigators are asking for help to identify and locate the suspect or suspects involved. They also said the rock could have been thrown from another vehicle or from the shoulder of the roadway. Anyone who witnessed anything related to rock throwing incident, they should call the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Antelope Valley Office at (323) 259-3200.

Rodriguez’s family set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs.

The other similar incident occurred in the area had no injuries.
