Police Chase Ended in a Shooting in the Cajon Pass Monday Night

Northbound I-15 was closed more than 14 hours after a lengthy chase ended with San Bernardino Sheriff’s deputies shooting and wounding a suspect. Only one lane was open with the 3 left lanes were blocked.

The pursuit began around 8:45pm Monday October 14, after a report of an armed robbery at a home in Hesperia, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department.

The suspect traveled west on Main Street in Hesperia and enter southbound I-15 and went down the Cajon Pass and travel on eastbound 210 freeway and travel through multiple cities. In Redlands the suspect enters westbound 10 Freeway at high speeds. The traveled back on I-15 in Fontana going northbound.

Around Cleghorn Road exit, the truck scales, and right before Highway 138 exit. Deputies performed multiple PIT maneuvers on the freeway in a short span toward the end of the pursuit, but the suspect continued to flee north just passing Hwy 138.

The chase eventually came to an end just after Highway 138 as sheriff’s deputies’ box the suspect in. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department confirmed shots were fired during the confrontation at the end of the pursuit.

The suspect was hit by gunfire, and was transported to the hospital where he remains right now

The suspect was identified as Robert Brown, 39 was hit by gunfire. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Over a 14-hour investigation Caltrans was able to open lanes at 12:30pm. Traffic was backed up all the was to the 210 Freeway.
