The shooting was reported just before 9:30am on October 28, 2024, in the southbound lanes of the 15 freeway in the Cajon Pass just after Oak Hill Road exit.
Investigators said, it appears there was some kind of incident on Oak Hill Road involving the drivers of a white Ford F-350 pickup truck and a black Volvo XC70 SUV/Station Wagon. They reportedly exchanged words and honked while driving on the Oak Hill Rd onramp.
Both drivers traveled south on Interstate 15 that’s when the driver of the Volvo then pulled out a gun and fired at the Ford truck. At least two bullet holes were later visible on the driver’s side of the pickup after the incident. California Highway Patrol said, the driver was shot in the leg.
The suspect driving the black Volvo then collided with a third vehicle uninvolved in the road rage incident a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck. With the contact the driver of the Toyota lost control and rolled over onto the right shoulder. The suspect of the Volvo with damage to the car, fled the scene last traveled southbound.
The suspect black Volvo XC70 SUV (wagon) should have damage to the front and to the rear of the vehicle.
CHP shut down southbound lanes of the 15 freeway from Oak Hill Road onramp to about two miles down the freeway. CHP shut down the freeway around 10:30am, only to reopen at 2pm, creating a massive traffic backup all the way back to Bear Valley Rd.
The CHP offered good advice for drivers who may find in a road rage incident with other motorists.
“Drive to your destination, follow the speed laws and don’t engage with other vehicles,” CHP Officer Berns said. “If an incident occurs where there is an unsafe lane change, do not escalate it into something that is more serious.”
BOLO be on the lookout for a black Volvo, which is believed to have damage to the front and rear bumpers. If you see the vehicle, please call 911.
