CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A high-speed chase in the Cajon Pass on Wednesday morning ended with a crash and a brush fire that closed parts of Interstate 15. (Photo above is credit by VVNG.com.)
The incident occurred shortly after 8:30am November 6, 2024, with San Bernardino Police pursuing a stolen blue Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling at high speed. At one point, the vehicle traveled in and out of traffic, illegally passed other vehicles while heading northbound I-15 toward the top of the Cajon Pass. The pickup truck was pursued by multiple marked police vehicles.
It was reported Officers from California Highway Patrol were preparing to take over the pursuit at the Oak Hill Road exit. Just second before the takeover, that is when the suspect crashed into a tractor-trailer.
After the collision officials said, the suspect was caught after fleeing the scene.
The Chevy truck became fully engulfed in flames, with help from gusty winds the fire spread to nearby brush along the center median embankment.
Firefighters arrived on scene and knocked down the vehicle fire and the brush fire. The brush fire which burned about 2 and a half acres. CHP temporally closed the northbound lanes for about a little over an hour.
