Northbound and southbound traffic was backed up for miles as Caltrans crews performed emergency maintenance to the roadway in the Cajon Pass just after 12pm on February 21, 2025.

Caltrans officials tell Pain in The Pass that crews immediately got to work after several large potholes were reported near Highway 138 exit in both directions late Friday morning.

With help by the California Highway Patrol, they did multiple traffic breaks as crews made quick repairs.

Traffic remained congested for about ten miles going north and about four miles going south on I-15.

Throughout Friday afternoon, many drivers went to the Pain In The Pass Facebook Group to report they’d been stuck in the traffic.

Around 1:30pm, Caltrans crews completed their work, and the lanes reopened.
