CAJON PASS, CA (Pain In The Pass) >> A big rig tractor pulling a trailer caught fire on southbound Interstate 15 Freeway just before the truck escape ramp Tuesday night. This created an orange glow you could see for miles.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department and the US Department of Forestry were getting calls of a big rig on fire. The calls reported the fire at the truck escape ramp in the Cajon Pass at 8:19pm February 23, 2021.
CHP and firefighters were on the scene and had to temporarily shut down all southbound lanes as they worked on getting the big rig and the trailer extinguished.
CHP issued a Sig Alert at 8:46pm for about 30 minutes for all lanes. By 9:05pm just the fast lane was open. The #2, #3 and #4 lanes are blocked due to cleanup of diesel fuel and oil spilled.
CHP and Caltrans open the #2 at midnight and had the two right open at 3:30am Wednesday morning.
The big rig fire did ignite nearby brush, but was quickly extinguished. Its unknown what was inside the trailer.
Everybody did escape the vehicle before the cab became fully engulfed. No injuries were reported at the scene.
The cause of the big rig fire is unknown at this time. There is a report it came from under of the cab of the truck.
