Small Brush Fire Sparks In The Riverbed On Mother’s Day In Helendale

HELENDALE, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A small vegetation fire sparked in the riverbed of Helendale in San Bernardino County Sunday afternoon.

The Wild IC broke out at around 3:49pm Sunday May 8, 2022, off of Wild Road and La Paz Drive in the town of Helendale according to the Fire Department. San Bernardino County Fire Department with help from CAL FIRE and others were on scene quickly. With gusty winds with 40 mph gust help the fire burned quickly.

At 7pm fire crews were able to stop the forward spread with help of the winds to die down. As of 8:45pm the fire has burned at least 19 acres with 75% containment at this time in the Mojave River bottom. About 15 structures were threatened. No structures have been reported to be damage or destroyed.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available. Firefighters will remain in the area for mop-up operations though the night to make sure no hot spots flare up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
