Nightmare Return Back To Work From The Holidays

CAJON PASS, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Traffic remained heavy Tuesday afternoon/evening as many travelers headed back home from their holiday trip.

Heavy traffic started at 5am for southbound Interstate 15 as commuters started going back to work. There was also a big challenge for commuters, the weather. Fog with light rain showers all morning into the late afternoon. This doubled or tripled the average drive time for some commuters.

The afternoon commuters plus the drivers headed back home from the Las Vegas area added to the traffic jam. Traffic was backed up at one point from Main Street in Hesperia down to about two miles after Cleghorn Road with no major accidents that were reported.

Northbound I-15 traffic started around 2pm for the afternoon drive. It had some drivers headed back home from the holidays and the regular commuters jamming up the Cajon Pass. Traffic was backed up from Summit Avenue in Fontana all the way up to Highway 138. A 30 minutes commute has turned into an hour and 15 minutes to come home tonight with no incidents.

Here are some tips if you may find yourself stuck in heavy or congested traffic. Remember, heavy traffic can be stressful and frustrating, but it’s important to remain calm and focused while behind the wheel. Here are some tips for safe driving in heavy traffic from the California Highway Patrol:

  • 1. Maintain a safe following distance – allow plenty of space between you and the vehicle in front of you in case you need to stop suddenly.
  • 2. Use your signals when changing lanes – this helps other drivers know your intentions and helps prevent accidents.
  • 3. Avoid distractions – resist the urge to check your phone or change the radio station while driving in heavy traffic.
  • 4. Be patient – remember that everyone is in the same situation and getting frustrated or aggressive will not help the situation.

By following these tips, you can help make the roads safer for everyone.
