Black Ice Could Be Blamed For Fatal Crash On Highway 138 Wednesday Morning

HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> One person killed and one person injured in a crash due to suspected black ice Wednesday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

California Highway Patrol, and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to the traffic crash. The incident took place at about 4:21am January 18, 2023. The location of the crash was on Highway 138 about 2 miles west of Summit Valley Road (Hesperia side).

When rescue crews arrived at the scene the they found one person unresponsive, shortly after they pronounced the person deceased at the scene. The other person was transported by ground ambulance to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. 

CHP received multiple reports of black ice across the highway and driving conditions prior to the collision.

The highway was closed for more than 3 hours so that first responders could attend the collision investigation.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary incident report is available. This incident is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Office.
