Incessant Rainfall Flooded over Highway 2 Bridge in Wrightwood

With incessant heavy rainfall from Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary has set or come close to setting a record day of rainfall. With the mud and debris flowing hitting the bridge over Highway 2. The debris clogged the opening under Hwy 2. This sent water and debris over the roadway.

Wrightwood and Big Pines area remained cut off due to the debris flow. Hundreds of vehicles and people are stranded on either side of the submerged bridge.

As water was flowing 3-4 feet above the bridge in the town of Wrightwood. Weather man sources said the water level will increased by tonight due to more heavy rains. The mud level could increased by two feet following the next downpour.

Also in Phelan Sheep Creek Bridge flow under Hwy 138 is also closed due to flooding.

We are keeping a close watch on the situation on Hwy 2. and Hwy 138 over Sheep Creek.

Remember Turn Around Don’t Drown Safety Flash Flood Tips:

• Driving around barricades is illegal and dangerous.

• Avoid low-water crossings in a vehicle.

• Be especially cautious at night. Flood dangers are much more difficult to see in the dark.

• Avoid areas already flooded, especially if the water is flowing fast.

• Do not attempt to cross flowing streams by foot.
