The strong Santa Ana winds happened along the Interstate 15 Freeway corridor between the Cajon Pass/Devore, 15/215 split area and the 10 freeway in Ontario.
One of the worst ones was on westbound 210 Freeway transition ramp to southbound I-15 Freeway around 9:26am on January 8, 2025, an overturned semi blocking the transition ramp. When rescue team arrived on scene the driver trapped inside the cab with the guardrail pinning him.
San Bernardino County Fire and Rancho Cucamonga Fire units responded to the scene and confirmed that extrication was necessary to safely remove the driver from the cab. The patient was transported to a local trauma center, where the driver succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
Over half of dozen of the semi knocked over by the gusty winds were in the same area as the fatal incident. No major injuries were reported in the other overturned semis.
One semi overturned early Wednesday morning just after 1am on northbound I-215 at Devore Road blocking all three lanes. This resulted in a three-vehicle separate crash as they couldn’t see the overturned semi. It was unknown how many people were transported by ambulance in unknown condition.
The other semis that overtured were on I-15 between the 15/215 split down to the 210 freeway.
All these incidents will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
