Pain In The Pass

Are You Ready for Less Traffic on I-15 in Ontario

ONTARIO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The Interstate 15 Corridor Freight and extend the Express Lanes is a collaborative effort by the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) in coordination with the Riverside County Transportation Commission (RCTC) starting a new project.

The 8-mile project from Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road in Jurupa Valley to just north of Foothill Boulevard in Rancho Cucamonga will add express lanes in the median of Interstate 15 to join the existing express lanes in Riverside County and add auxiliary lanes to improve traffic operations and safety in the vicinity of the 15 Freeway, 60 Freeway and the 10 Freeway interchanges.

This is considered one of the most congested bottlenecks parts in the United States, the I-10/I-15 interchange in San Bernardino County serves 50% of the inter-state truck traffic to and from Southern California. When completed, this project will add:

• One mile of one express lane in each direction between Cantu-Galleano Ranch Road and 60 Freeway.

• Six miles of two express lanes in each direction between the 60 Freeway and Arrow Route before Foothill Boulevard.

• One mile of one express lane in each direction between Arrow Route and Etiwanda Avenue.

• One auxiliary lane in each direction between the 60 Freeway and I-10.

• One auxiliary lane in the northbound direction between Fourth Street and Foothill Boulevard.

Project Benefits:

• Provide a seamless driver experience connecting RCTC’s I-15 express lanes to SB Express Lanes on I-15.

• Relieve congestion and improve traffic flow through one of the largest logistics centers in the U.S.

• Provide travel time savings and trip reliability for all who use I-15.

Construction activities start in March 2025.

The project is expected to be complete by 2028.
