SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Another cutoff low to move down into Southern California on Tuesday and Wednesday. This system is different from the weekend cutoff low.
Since it is a cutoff low, here’s a more detailed explanation what is a cutoff low is a low-pressure system that becomes detached or isolated from the main flow of the jet stream. This “cutting off” leads the low-pressure system to stall or move very slowly, often for several days, over a particular area.
The center of the low will be across Southern California. see map below. Thanks to the Southern Califorina Weather Force.

As the cutoff low spins around on Tuesday and leaves sometime on Wednesday, it will bring a chance of isolated thunderstorms and rain showers. Heavy rain showers at time with each storm cell for the high deserts and the mountains.
An isolated thunderstorm or two can spill over into the Inland Empire. Remember it’s a cutoff low.
The peak time of an afternoon pop-up thunderstorm can start before just before 12pm to 5pm and can last until 8pm with the heat of the day. Be prepared for night time T-storms also.
Each thunderstorm cell will also capable of producing gusty, erratic outflow winds, gusting upwards of 40 to 60+ mph in the region.
The heaviest downpours can have the potential to bring a quick 1+ inch of rain. The risk for localized flash flooding is low for Southern California, but cannot be ruled out because the ground is dry and in the burn scars areas. Flash Flooding is possible with each storm cell.
