SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A Flood Watch has been issued Sunday afternoon valid from Monday 8pm on October 13 until Tuesday 3 p.m. The watch is for Los Angeles County and the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. This is for the town of Wrightwood.
“Flash flooding and debris flows caused by excessive rainfall are possible.” Potential for brief heavy rainfall over the burn scars may trigger hazardous and damaging flooding and debris flows. Flooding may also occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
The Pain In The Pass will update the forecast on Monday afternoon and be update alert for possible Flood and Flash Flood Warnings.
Those living in areas near the recent burn scars like in Wrightwood or in areas prone to flooding should listen to local authorities and be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
This watch is in effect until Tuesday at 3pm.
Rainy weather driving tips:
- Turn on your headlights – Even when it’s light outside, using headlights can improve visibility and alert other drivers to your presence.
- While on the road – Opt for the middle lanes and remain on higher ground. Rainwater tends to gather along the road edges.
- Avoid puddles – Driving into puddles or low rainwater areas can lead to vehicles hydroplaning or losing control.
- Do not follow large vehicles closely – Large vehicles like trucks or buses can create a spray of water that can reduce your visibility.
- Avoid flooded areas – When encountering a flooded road, do a U-turn and head back. The strong currents from flash floods can pull drivers off roadways. Driving through deep water can also negatively affect a vehicle’s mechanical and electrical systems.
