This will be the first in a series of closures that Caltrans is using to complete several freeway pavement rehabilitation projects.

Caltrans has said the 60 Swarm will be much like the infamous Carmageddon but bigger.

The 60 freeway closures will continue every weekend until mid-November. No freeway closures on Labor Day or Veterans Day weekends.

This project cost is $134.5 million, SB-1(Gas Tax) is funding $16.9 million of the total.

Also a part of the 60 Swarm project, is the bridge replacements that has started already this week:

Three bridge replacements along the 60 freeway at Pipeline Avenue, Monte Vista Avenue and Benson Avenue.

ONLY WEEKDAY NIGHTTIME LANE CLOSURES – One lane will be closed in each direction on SR-60 in Ontario from Mountain Avenue to East End Avenue, from 10 pm to 5 am. The remaining three lanes and all ramps in both directions will be open.

Why? The vertical clearances on these bridges are being raised to current standards to mitigate over-height loads from hitting the bridge structures.

Bridge replacement begins in July 2019 through Fall 2021.

Nighttime freeway lanes closures, and overpass lane closures, for the duration of the project.

This project cost $23 million, SB-1(Gas Tax) is funding $10.4 million of the total.

WEEKDAY NIGHTTIME LANE CLOSURES—One lane will be closed in each direction on SR-60 in Ontario from Mountain Avenue to East End Avenue, from 10 pm to 5 am. The remaining three lanes and all ramps in both directions will be open.
