BAKER, CA (Pain in the Pass) >> Three people have died on Monday morning after a Ford Explorer SUV drifted over the center median/divider on Interstate 15 and flew into a box truck traveling in the opposite direction. The accident was located about 20 miles north of city of Baker between Halloran Summit Road and Cima Road.

For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Ford was driving northbound 15 when they lost control and enter the dirt center median/divider, became airborne as it entered the southbound lanes of Interstate 15.

While the Ford was airborne they crashed head on with a Isuzu box truck smashing the windshield/cab area. The box truck was traveling southbound in the number 2 lane. Both the driver and passenger of the box truck were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Ford and the 1-year-old was traveling in a car seat in the backseat was transported to University Medical Center in Las Vegas by helicopter with major injuries. The passenger was not wearing a seat belt was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Southbound traffic was temporarily stopped for some time as they landed two medical helicopters.

Traffic was jammed for hours as they investigation the accident scene.

CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available.
