VICTORVILLE, CA (Pain In The Pass) >> Southern California is one step closer to having a high-speed train between the Las Vegas Strip and Victorville.

Virgin Trains USA plans to build the rails, which it will travel a distance of 185 miles nonstop, at speeds up to 150 miles per hour. This will take 70 to 90 minutes to move people between Victorville and Las Vegas.

California State Treasurer Fiona Ma is likely to approve a $300 million in tax-exempt private activity bonds for the company. That move would allow the company to access about $2.4 billion in debt, roughly half of what it needs to build the train.

Construction is expected to start next year and will take three years to complete.

This will be a dedicated train lane and not competing with any other railroad company, said Virgin Trains USA.

Since the high-speed rail will be near the Las Vegas Strip, it will make it easier for visitors to access the Allegiant Stadium home of the Raiders and the Convention Centers nearby.

If you drive Interstate 15 to Vegas on a Friday afternoon/evening or vice of versa on Sunday afternoon/evening you’ll want an alternative route, this will save you time and headaches.

Will this mean more traffic in the Cajon Pass and the high desert, we will have to wait and see?
