Operation CRASH (Crash Reduction and Safe Highways) Along I-10 Freeway

ONTARIO, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Slow down. Eliminate Distractions. Arrive safely.

That’s one of the messages behind Operation C.R.A.S.H. (Crash Reduction and Safe Highways), a speed-reduction program led by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) and supported by Caltrans and the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA).

Operation CRASH is off to a great start! Over the last three days, Officer Hernandez caught a driver at 117mph on LiDAR. Officers have issued a total of 51 citations throughout the I-10 Express Lanes construction zone. These citations included, but were not limited to, speeding, distracted driving, as well as commercial violations.

The program will take shape over the next two weeks, with added CHP enforcement along the Interstate10 Express Lanes construction zone between Interstate 15 and Monte Vista Avenue exit. Construction zones are a particular concern given the high number of accidents that occur there.

The goal of Operation C.R.A.S.H. is to reduce the number of victims injured or killed during traffic accidents. Unsafe speeds, improper turning, unsafe lane changes, impaired driving and right-of-way violations are the leading cause of highway injuries or deaths. Within CHP’s Rancho Cucamonga service area, nearly 2,000 victims were injured and 19 were killed during the past year.

The enhanced enforcement dates along the I-10 Express Lanes construction zone are:

Day:

  • Tuesday, March 15, from 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 16, from 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 17, from 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Tuesday, March 22, from 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday, March 23, from 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, March 24, from 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.

Night:

  • Thursday, March 17, from 9:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m.
  • Thursday, March 24, from 9:30 p.m.-5:30 a.m.

Please keep all highway workers safe by paying extra attention and slowing down in construction zones.
