NEEDLES, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> California Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle crash. One vehicle rolled-over on Interstate 40 that left a driver dead at the scene and a passenger dead at the hospital on Memorial Day afternoon.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:36pm, Monday May 30, 2022. The crash was located on westbound Interstate 40 just before 5 Mile Road. California Highway Patrol and the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision involving only two vehicles. From what the CHP traffic log stated, a black pickup truck and a small red car were traveling on eastbound I-40. The pickup truck reportedly hit the car and both lost control, causing the truck to roll over multiples times landing on it’s wheels. The truck landed on the left shoulder of the westbound I-40 lanes.

When rescue crew arrived at the scene they located two people ejected from the truck. Despite life-saving rescue measures, firefighter officials said the driver of the pickup was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other person was reported to be a passenger with serious injuries and was transported by Native Air Medical #8 helicopter from the scene to Las Vegas Medical Center. The passenger succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

The driver of the car only suffered minor injuries.

The incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol Needles Office. CHP says additional information will be updated as it becomes available. Please check back for updates on this incident.

The identification of the two people will not be released until the family is notified.
