APPLE VALLEY, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> A 12-year-old boy and an a 11-year-old girl were killed after a hit-and-run driver struck them while riding their ATV’s in Apple Valley over the 4th of July weekend, authorities said.
The crash happened just before 9pm on Saturday night July 2, 2022 along Stoddard Wells Road and Slash X Ranch Rd in Apple Valley.
Investigators say Jacob Martinez was riding a quad with his family friend, Christina Bird, when they were struck by a 4-door side by side orange/black Polaris RZR at high speeds.
The driver and passenger of the Polaris RZR UTV took off and didn’t stop according to authorities. After the collision they turned their lights off and fled the scene in the dark.
Martinez was pronounced dead on the scene. Bird was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital and was later flown to Loma Linda University Medical Center. Bird succumbed to her injuries sustained in the collision on Wednesday.
“I ask that if you were there with that person, or know of that person who was there … saw what happened … please be compassionate and come forward,” said Martinez’s sister, Cynthia Nunez. “Don’t hide them.”
The orange Polaris RZR is missing the front hood and their should be damage to the front end of the vehicle. If any businesses have seen or noticed ordering or replacing parts for a orange Polaris please share what you know. The people need to eventually fix the damages of the vehicle.
We need to bring justice to their families and find the senseless people who left these innocent children to die. The families of both children are asking anyone with information to call the California Highway Patrol in Victorville at 760-241-1186. Update on Wednesday CHP investigators from a tip went to a house on Resoto Road in the town of Apple Valley and no one was home. CHP came back on Thursday evening with a search warrant still no one was home. They discovered a orange/black Polaris Razor in the garage with some damage to the front-end and missing the orange hood. CHP reported they towed the vehicle away from the residents on a tow truck for the investigation.
At this time no suspects have been question or detained as of Thursday night.
