Tesla has issued a voluntary recall for more than 40,000 of its vehicles.

The recall includes Model S and Model X vehicles that were built between 2017 and 2021. According to the company, the power steering function may be defective. Some drivers have apparently reported they lost the power steering ability on a bumpy road or after hitting a pothole.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it does not affect steering control itself. However, officials say the malfunction makes it more difficult to turn the wheel, especially at lower speeds.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the recall.

Repairing the issue is done through a software update.
