The crash was reported about 9:55am November 5, 2023 on Hwy 190 traveling down a steep grade of Towne Pass near Panamint Springs Resort. The driver lost control of the truck maybe lost his brakes. The semi overturned several times, scattering the cargo of beehives, according to the California Highway Patrol.

California Highway Patrol, fire rescue crews and National Park Service provided emergency response to the scene. The semi driver was driven by ground ambulance to Panamint Springs Resort, where he was transferred to a Mercy Air medivac helicopter. He was flown to Antelope Valley Hospital.

The 35-year-old driver from Las Vegas sustained major traumatic injuries from the rollover crash as well as bee stings. 

A good Samaritan pulled the driver from the semi and got stung in the process. Several of those responders were stung by the bees also.
