Just after 3:30am December 29, 2023 this morning rescue crews responded to reports of an overturned tractor-trailer about 4 miles away from Crucero Road exit on westbound I-40.

Upon arrival, the first responders found a tractor-trailer had veered off the roadway and overturned, resulting in the driver being trapped inside the vehicle. Firefighters quickly extricated the patient.

The semi driver was assessed and treated by the San Bernardino County Fire Department and Paramedics. He was found to have potential fractured left ankle and severe lacerations injuries according to paramedic on the CHP traffic log. He was transported on board an ambulance to a local hospital in stable condition.

The semi was carrying a full load of 75,000 pounds of frozen chicken. The slow lane was blocked for several hours to off-load the chicken and the removal of the semi tractor trailer caused a slow down in the area.

We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary accident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Barstow Office.
