SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Happy Cinco de Mayo! As you celebrate with friends and family, remember to stay safe. If you’re drinking, be sure to designate a sober driver or use a rideshare service to get home safely.

The California Highway Patrol and the Pain In The Pass Traffic Group on Facebook wants everyone to have a fun and safe Cinco de Mayo. Don’t risk it—always drive sober.

Here Is Some Tips What to Do if You See a Drunk Driver on the Freeway:

  • First, stay as far away from the other vehicle as possible.

  • Second, do not try to pass the vehicle or signal the driver to pull over.  Doing so could result in collision.

  • Third, take notice of the license plate number along with details of the vehicle including make, model and color. However, make sure you don’t compromise your own safety trying to obtain this information.

  • Finally, Call 911. Give the exact location of the vehicle, including the name of the road or cross streets, freeway off ramps, and the direction the vehicle is traveling. Give a complete description of the vehicle and the manner in which the vehicle is being driven.

There is twice as many fatal and injury crashes on a Cinco de Mayo Sundays than a typical Sunday. So please designate a sober driver.

Alcohol is not the only substance that can lead to an arrest for driving under the influence (DUI). Cannabis, prescription drugs, and illegal drugs all can impair driving. Driving is a complex task, and any drug can slow your reaction time.
