PHELAN, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> Two people are injured after a head-on crash on Phelan Road near Smith Rd. Monday night.
California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a call around 9:50pm on Monday July 1, 2024, of a motor vehicle collision on Phelan Rd.
The two vehicles involved in the collision were a white Chevrolet work truck and a silver pickup truck unknown make or model, both had majori front-end damage. One of the trucks started to catch fire. Both vehicles were blocking both lanes of travel. With help, multiple bystanders they were able to free the driver that was trapped inside the truck that caught fire following a head-on crash before rescue team arrived.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they had a total of two people to rendered first aid, a driver in each vehicle. Rescue crews requested two medical helicopters to land at the scene to transport the two critical injured patients. One patient was reported to be badly burned.
Mercy Air #2 helicopter airlifted one patient to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The other patient was airlifted by Reach Air Medical #43 helicopter to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
The roadway was shut down in both directions for hours for the investigators.
