HESPERIA, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The Hesperia Police Department is fielding extra patrols Friday night to crack down on intoxicated drivers, authorities said.

The extra enforcement campaign is planned for 6pm Friday to 2am Saturday, the agency said in a written statement.

“Impaired driving is preventable,” according to Traffic Sgt. Brendan Motley. “If you’ve been drinking or have taken other substances that can impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places.”

Officials again reminded the public that in addition to alcohol, marijuana and other drugs, including some prescription and over-the-counter medications, can impair a person’s ability to drive.

Funding for the campaign is being provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
