About 9:45am, a truck lost a pallet of a white powdery substance maybe bags of concrete, limestone, or bags of gypsum powder on southbound I-15 just before the Glen Helen Parkway exit. When at least 20 bags on a truck fell off and dumped all over the lanes, said the California Highway Patrol.
Caltrans said they called for a major cleanup response after the bags of the white powder created a large white cloud of dust, that looked like smoke.
CHP issued a Sig-Alert for multiple hours for all southbound I-15 lanes at 10:15am. They called for a sweeper to pickup the white powder about one inch deep in spots in the traffic lanes.
About at 3:30pm Caltrans was able to open the slow lane and the #3 lane. Then at 4pm they were able to reopen all the lanes.
It looks like the driver of the truck didn’t appear to stick around, and instead left his mess across the freeway. CHP said they could have cited the driver for not properly secure the load.
We will update this story with more information when the CHP’s preliminary incident report is available. Additional details were limited at this time. This incident will be under investigation by the California Highway Patrol, Inland Office.
