BARSTOW, CA. (Pain In The Pass) >> The California Highway Patrol’s and Barstow Police Department is planning a sobriety checkpoint in the city of Barstow to help ensure those who take part don’t get behind the wheel of a car afterward drinking or smoking high.

The checkpoint will be held from 8pm Friday to 2am Saturday morning at an undisclosed location in the Barstow, according to CHP Bartow Office.

The checkpoint will be staffed by uniformed officers from the CHP and Barstow Officers who are trained in detecting alcohol or drug-impaired drivers,” the CHP said in a written statement.

The Barstow Police Department also issued a warning not to drive while high, reminding the public that well recreational marijuana is legal for adults in California, driving under the influence of it is not. It is unsafe and illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. “It’s important to make responsible choices, especially when it comes to getting behind the wheel.”

Driving under the influence not only puts yourself at risk, but endangers the lives of others on the road. Always designate a sober driver to ensure everyone’s safety.

Those who see an impaired driver on the road were urged to call 911.

The operations is being funded, in part, by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
